When learning German and traveling to a German speaking country there are two options to choose from. You may either go to Germany or go to Austria.
In this trip, I am starting out with Austria and then going to Germany. I am in Vienna at the moment, WOW, this famous city with lots to do and lots to see, and everything here is famous and has a great history behind it. Everywhere you go, there is something interesting to investigate. Museums, churches, tipical streets, historical buildings and lots more!
The German spoken here has slight differences than the German in Germany but I can still understand people talking very clearly. All you have to change in the language when you greet someone is say Gruss Got instead of Hallo and you will blend in!
At the same time, from Vienna we can go skiing and.... by public transportation! I had never heard that before, but it is true! The Alps are not far away from here allowing you to go and come back in the same day.
From Vienna, we also get to travel to the nearby countries. Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, is 1 hour away from here. A whole new different world, a new language, different currency, different beliefs; it is great to experience it.
From Vienna, we can travel to Budapest, Hungary, which is 3 hours away.
On the other hand, one of the drawbacks from Vienna is that the local people are not very friendly. Even the local people I have met in Vienna say that the people from Vienna are not very friendly. They do not smile very much and they are not very social.
All in all, I am all about learning about the German language and the culture. I will write all my experiences during this trip to share with all of you and you may write whenever you travel!
