The violence in Moscow that shook the country and made global news yesterday was scary and a noted highly rare event. Thankfully, our Moscow language school staff has reported that everyone there is fine and that the school's neighborhood is all the way across the city from where the violence took place.

Medical Spanish Programs in Alajuela, Costa Rica.
Costa Rica has a highly organized Social Security system known
as the Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social (CCSS). CCSS is one of the most
developed healthcare systems in Latin America. In fact, it could probably hold
its own against the systems in more developed countries. Established in 1943,
CCSS may be so advanced because Costa Rica does not have a military to fund and
so can devote money to more social projects.

Here is your chance to join an already existing group of teachers and students from Edgewood College to Morelia, Mexico on their annual MAESTRO Spanish Program for Teachers.
In its fourth year, this program has shown great success and now the program director has offered to share this experience with teachers outside the Edgewood community. During this 3-week program, participants will visit a variety of local Mexican schools to see how classrooms are run and lessons are taught. The schools cover a wide scope of economic backgrounds and resources. You will also take daily Spanish classes and join in activities such as salsa classes and an Intercambio exchange with local Mexican students who are studying English. Participants will also visit an orphanage and participate in excursions to Guanajuato and Patzucaro. The program runs June 19 - July 11, 2010.

AmeriSpan is pleased to announce our new Budget Crisis Scholarship. Due to the budget crisis, cities and states are reducing their support for state and community colleges. Applicants can receive a $250 scholarship when enrolling in an AmeriSpan College Study Abroad program, if you are currently enrolled at a state or community college. You may apply 4 weeks prior to your program start date, or when you apply for the CSA program. They are not available after you have applied and are accepted into a program.

Looking for a Peru Spanish school? AmeriSpan is happy to let you know that the popular excursion to Machu Picchu will be available on April 1st. Peruvian Trade and Tourism Minister Martin Perez announced last month that the citadel of Incan ruins will be reopening to the public following the flooding of roads leading to it last month. Starting April 1st, 2010, visitors will be permitted to tour the citadel via bus from Cusco without complications. The city of Cusco itself has been open to the public, so it is still entirely possible to plan a trip starting in late March!

After the earthquake that hit Chile south of Santiago on February 27th, there were complications and closings in many Chilean businesses and points of transport in and around Santiago. We had one student in Santiago at the time who we called instantly to check on, and he reported to us that he was fine and that the school had dealt with the emergency situation safely and professionally. He safely flew home soon after.
