Top 5 Reasons to Volunteer in India

 1. Variety, variety, variety. Experience medical projects in small clinics of Jaipur, orphanages and day care centers, women empowerment programs teaching sewing and computers to adolescents and housewives, domestic violence shelters, environment projects working with sea turtles on the beautiful beaches of Goa or volunteer at a school for children of local fisherman families. You name it, India’s volunteer program has something for everyone; challenge yourself in one of our amazing projects while making an impact. 

2. Visit a country with little language barrier. English, while it’s not India’s official language, is widely spoken and written on many street signs, restaurant menus, etc. This makes for an easy adjustment into a new, very different culture. Where English is not widely spoken, like in the volunteer project sites, you have the opportunity gain experience teaching ESL, which helps locals become more valuable in India’s job market. It also gives you some teaching experience to add to your resume.  

 3. Meet other volunteers and potential life-long friends from around the world. Volunteer lodging will host volunteers from many countries like the U.K., Germany, France & Brazil to name a few. You can also ride in rickshaws daily with your new friends to and from your volunteer project, which is another experience of a lifetime.

4. Become an expert on yoga, Indian cuisine and bargaining at the bazaars. In Goa, volunteers can take part in free yoga in the common area every morning taught by one of the staff members who is a certified yoga instructor. Likewise, there’s a “host-mother” at the Jaipur camp that cooks all of the amazing meals for volunteers, how’s that for authentic Indian fare? You can also venture out and experience some authentic Indian street food or dine at local eateries. When shopping at the bazaars, don’t ever accept a first offer. As a non-native you MUST haggle in India to get a fair price.    

5. Experience the Golden Triangle. Jaipur, the home base of our volunteer program, is part of North India’s “Golden Triangle” which connects Jaipur, Delhi and Agra. You can easily see the 1st Wonder of the World, the Taj Mahal in Agra, before or after your volunteer program. India is also a convenient base for travel to Southeast Asia or even Europe. If you plan to travel after your trip, you can share stories of your amazing experience in India with those you encounter.
