So you’ve chosen to study Spanish in Spain. Lucky you! There is
so much to do, where should you start? Read our tips for studying abroad in
Spain to find out!
Punto de Informacion: Every city and town has a punto de informacion
(information center) where you can find maps, museum info, bus and train
schedules. Guidebooks are excellent resources to get some of this information
in advance, as well.
Transportation: Spain has one of the most modern and efficient train transportation
systems (www.renfe.es), and it is the best
way to travel between cities. But, if you want to get around within the big
cities, you can always take the subway in Madrid or Barcelona.
Food: You should try the typical Spanish dishes: paella, jamon
Serrano, tortilla de patata, gazpacho…the list goes on!
Entertainment: Catch a flamenco show in a theatre, or see an equally
enthralling dance by the street performers in the plaza. Endless museums of art
as well as examples of Roman, Moorish, Gallic and other architecture abound.
Spain is known for a vibrant nightlife, which for the most courageous can last
well into the next day!

About the Panda Project Volunteer Program Who doesn’t love pandas? The giant panda is one of the most
charismatic, adorable creatures on the planet, and also one of the most
endangered species in the world. Volunteers are needed to play a part in safeguarding
their future. When volunteering with the Panda Project at the Panda
Conservation Base outside of Chengdu, China you will work closely with a
trainer to care for and study these amazing animals. Volunteers help to prepare
food for the pandas such as apples, panda bread, carrots, carry lots of bamboo,
serve them food, clean their enclosures, observe and do research on the pandas,
and help in providing medical care for the pandas. You will also have time to
watch and photograph the pandas. We promise you, you will love the cute pandas!
Greetings from San Jose! Interested in studying Spanish in San Jose, Costa Rica? Read the comments one of our staff members made after a recent trip to our school in San Jose.
The school has a few drivers on staff that they use for airport pick-up and to bring students places sometimes. One of the drivers picked me up in Heredia and brought me to school. The school is located in the San Pedro neighborhood of San Jose, which is near the Universidad area in the northeastern region of the city. The most famous thing near the school is the Costa Rican President’s House. If you need to give directions, just say that and everyone will know where to go.

Alajela, Costa Rica is home to one of our best and most successful study abroad programs. One of our study abroad coordinators recently took a trip there and now shares with us first-hand what the homestay families were like:
I visited 4 homestays. The first family has been
working with the school for many many years and the host mother told me she
thinks she has hosted over 100 students in her time. Since she started hosting
students, her grown children have also become host families. They all live on
the same gated property. There were 5 houses there that could hold students.
