Study Abroad and Learn Chinese Part 2

If you read our first blog entry this week about studying abroad and learning Chinese, you learned about three schools in two fabulous locations: Beijing and Hangzhou, China. Today we are going to discuss three more cities: Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Taipei. 

If you are interested in learning Cantonese, a more complicated dialect than Mandarin, a trip to AmeriSpan's school in Hong Kong is a must. Hong Kong, which is comprised of 262 islands in southern China, is known for its fantastic food, amazing architecture, and the best shopping anywhere. Our school is located in the Wanchai district of Hong Kong, which offers excellent nightlife and shopping. Modern classrooms, a language lab, and free internet access are available at this school. We like that students get a private room, some organized activities, and that there is a diverse mix of students. Also, this is a small program with an intimate atmosphere, which allows for maximum personal attention. We don't like that there is usually a 30-60 minute commute to school, no meals are included on Sundays, and the high cost of living.

For students of Mandarin, Shanghai ranks highly on the list of places to learn. One of the largest industrial cities in China, an important sea port, and the commercial and financial center of China, Shanghai has much to offer. Of course, world-class shopping, nightlife, and cuisine are all to be found in Shanghai. Our school in Shanghai is located downtown, with 12 classrooms, internet, and a tea/coffee area. We like that students have a private room and laundry service, and are housed within walking distance to school, the school organizes some activities, and it is possible to switch to the school's other campus in Beijing. We don't like the fact that there are no homestays at the Shanghai school. Some additional programs offered in Shanghai is the Program for Mandarin Teachers and Chinese and Culture for 50+.

Our final location is Taipei, Taiwan. Taiwan, an island located off the coast of China, is very mountainous and beautiful. Taipei is a fascinating city which combines ancient customs with new technology. Our school in Taipei has three campuses, and is located within easy distance to restaurants, shops, night markets, and night clubs. We like that Taiwan is the recognized center for traditional Chinese art and culture, and that the classes are private, allowing for maximum attention. we do not like the pollution near the congested city center and that no lodging is included in the program.

I like Hongkong and Sanghai lot.These are very good cities as an option for the study abroadplaces.But might be very expensive.
