Quality Spanish Instruction at a Bargain Price!
Honduras is an excellent destination for study abroad. It has great schools, friendly people, intimate homestays, and best of all, everything in less expensive there. There are two locations in Honduras where AmeriSpan offers Spanish language immersion: Copan and La Ceiba.
Copan is located in western Honduras, near the Guatemala border. It is a quaint city with cobblestone streets, a colonial church and fantastic Mayan ruins. La Ceiba is located on the northern Caribbean with beaches, proximity to Honduras’s largest national park, and lots of restaurants. La Ceiba is also a short plane ride to the Bay Islands, known for their excellent and inexpensive scuba diving.
Whichever location suits you best, both offer quality, private Spanish instruction. The facilities are quite modest in each location, but the friendly Hondurans who run each school will teach you lots of Spanish in a short amount of time, more than making up for a lack of creature comforts. With private classes, you can learn at your own pace and really concentrate on what you want to learn.
Homestays in Honduras usually only take one student at a time, which means you get maximum attention, immersion, and interaction. Many other locations will cram several students in each homestay, so you have more opportunities to speak English. In Honduras, you will have much less opportunity to speak English, furthering your immersion experience.
Now getting down to the bargain… taxis cost less than $1 US, buses cost about $0.50. A night of dinner a drinks for two will usually run you about $30 and will cost even less at most places. Hotels are usually under $10. If you are interested in scuba diving, Utila, one of the Bay Islands offers some of the cheapest PADI Open Water certifications out there. The current price is $259 for the course, much cheaper than anywhere else! The diving off the Bay Islands is said to be some of the best in the world, with regular sightings of whale sharks, the world’s largest fish, and beautiful reefs, caves, and wrecks.
If you’re on a budget and are looking for a quality, intimate Spanish language immersion experience, Honduras should be at the top of your list. For more information on AmeriSpan programs in Honduras, click here.
